Resetting Your Password
How to reset your password if you forgot it, and what to do if the reset link expires.
Forgot your password? It happens. Here is how to get back into your account.
Requesting a Password Reset
- Go to the Gilded sign-in page
- Click the Forgot password? link below the password field
- Enter the email address you used when you signed up
- Click Send Reset Link
You will receive an email with a link to create a new password. Click the link, enter your new password, confirm it, and you are back in.
If the Email Does Not Arrive
Give it a couple of minutes. If it still has not shown up:
- Check your spam or junk folder. Email filters sometimes catch password reset emails.
- Make sure you entered the right email. The reset link goes to the email address associated with your account. If you signed up with a different email than the one you entered, you will not receive it.
- Try again. Go back to the sign-in page and request another reset link. There is no penalty for requesting multiple times.
If the Reset Link Expires
Password reset links expire after a short period for security reasons. If you click the link and see a message that it has expired, just go back to the sign-in page and request a new one. The process is the same — click Forgot password?, enter your email, and you will get a fresh link.
Choosing a Good Password
When setting your new password, aim for something that is both strong and memorable:
- At least 8 characters
- Mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
- Not something you use on other sites
A password manager makes this painless if you use one.
